Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney Earns Level II Trauma Designation

New designation expands coverage to community

MCKINNEY, Texas – Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney, a part of Baylor Scott & White Health, has been designated as a Level II trauma center by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), one of only 26 Level II major trauma facilities in Texas. In the last fiscal year, more than 43,000 people visited the emergency department at Baylor Scott & White – McKinney.

"We are excited to achieve the Level II trauma designation," said Tim Bowen, president, Baylor Scott & White – McKinney. "I commend everyone, including our local EMS and first responders, who worked diligently to help achieve this Level II trauma designation. This furthers our mission and commitment to serve the community."

At a Level II trauma facility, emergency medicine physicians and nurses are required to have trauma-specific continuing education and maintain specialized certifications in trauma and resuscitation. This training is vital in the assessment and stabilization of trauma patients.

"Baylor Scott & White – McKinney obtaining Level II trauma center designation by the American College of Surgeons and the state of Texas—with zero deficiencies—demonstrates an incredible commitment from the physicians on our medical staff, along with our nurses and staff to elevate the quality of care at our hospital," said Brady Anderson, MD, trauma medical director, Baylor Scott & White – McKinney. "Our comprehensive team of skilled providers is honored to serve our community with compassionate care, working to provide quality outcomes for traumatically injured patients."

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney becomes the 16th Baylor Scott & White Health hospital to earn a trauma center designation and the second medical center to do so in McKinney.
