Baylor Scott & White Health Announces Key Leadership Appointments and Promotions

DALLAS and TEMPLE, Texas – Baylor Scott & White Health has strengthened its leadership team with the addition of three healthcare industry veterans.

“With these appointments, Baylor Scott & White is adding three exceptional leaders to our lineup during a critical time in healthcare. Each will have vital roles in extending our legacy of caring for our communities and our people,” said Jim Hinton, chief executive officer.

Jessica Quinn, JD, will join Baylor Scott & White as senior vice president and chief compliance officer. The System also promoted from within, naming Nakesha Lopez, MBA, as senior vice president and chief human resources officer, and Mike Mullender, PhD, MDiv, as chief mission & ministry officer.

Nakesha Lopez, MBA – Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

Promoted following a national search, Lopez will provide strategic oversight and leadership for the System’s human resources function, including talent acquisition, rewards and benefits, as well as strategies to build on our values-driven culture. She assumes the role after having excelled in multiple System roles, from director to vice president of human resources.

"Nakesha is a thoughtful leader with a genuine passion for our people and a drive to advance our culture,” adds Hinton.

Prior to joining our system, Lopez served as vice president of human resources for Barclays Capital and as assistant vice president of human resources at Lehman Brothers.

Lopez received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hunter College and a Master of Business Administration degree in human resources management from the University of Phoenix.

Jessica Quinn, JD – Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer

Effective March 22, Quinn will oversee the System’s corporate compliance program, reinforcing its focus on transparency. Her more than two decades of experience and expertise include compliance, risk management, information security and auditing initiatives. “Jessica brings with her an extraordinary amount of experience in all facets of our organization,” said Hinton.

Quinn joins Baylor Scott & White from OhioHealth, where she served as the senior compliance and assurance executive. She previously held roles at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and she has also worked as a private practice attorney.

Quinn holds a juris doctorate from The University of Houston Law Center, a bachelor’s degree from Texas State University, and she is nationally certified by Carnegie Mellon University in cybersecurity oversight.

Mike Mullender, PhD, MDiv – Vice President and Chief Mission & Ministry Officer

Mullender immediately assumes his new role amid the COVID-19 pandemic, continuing three decades of service to Baylor Scott & White. Having previously served as the director of pastoral care for Baylor University Medical Center and for the System, he is well-suited to extend the system’s faith-based legacy.

“Mike’s leadership will help us continue to build on our founding as a Christian ministry of healing, which is central to who we are and the care we provide,” said Hinton.

Mullender received his Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Divinity degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Baylor University.
