Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas, has selected veteran leader Steven R. Newton, FACHE, to be president of Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas beginning July 9. He also will oversee the system's Central Region, which includes Baylor University Medical Center, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie and Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas.
Newton joined Baylor Scott & White in 2004 and most recently served as president of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Grapevine and the system's West Region. Prior to that, he was president of Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth.

Newton's healthcare career spans nearly 30 years and includes significant accomplishments. He led Baylor Scott & White – Grapevine as it achieved U.S. News and World Report regional and statewide recognition from 2014 through 2017. He also developed and implemented a program that resulted in the facility's Level II trauma designation.

While a search is conducted to fill Newton's role at Baylor Scott & White – Grapevine, Eric Wallis, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer, will serve as interim president. Prior to joining Baylor Scott & White in 2004, Newton served in leadership roles at Health Midwest, Research Medical Center and HCA.
Newton is on the board of directors for United Way of Tarrant County and the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Foundation. He is also a member of the Dean's Advisory Council for the University of North Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health.
Newton holds a master's degree in public health from Yale University in New Haven, Conn. and a bachelor's degree in English from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
