Wm. Stephen Boyd has been named chief legal officer for Baylor Scott & White Health, the newly formed parent company for the combined health systems of Scott & White Healthcare and Baylor Health Care System. He will serve as the system's general counsel and corporate secretary. As chief legal officer, Boyd is the general counsel responsible for all legal and risk management functions for what is now the largest not-for-profit health care provider in Texas and one of the largest in the nation.
Boyd joined Baylor in 2007 after practicing law in downtown Dallas for more than 26 years and gaining vast experience in his representation of many regulated industries in federal and state courts as well as administrative venues.
"Health care is one of the most complex and highly regulated industries in the world, and we are confident that Steve is the right lawyer to guide us." says Joel Allison, CEO of Baylor Scott & White Health.
"I am honored that Joel and our board of trustees have placed their confidence in me," says Boyd. "I'm looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that come along with leading the legal and risk management teams of one of the most highly respected health care providers in the United States."
Boyd was instrumental in shepherding the joining of the two systems through the state and federal regulatory process.
"I believe we're going to be a model for others to follow in how to efficiently provide quality care for our communities in a post-health care reform world," says Boyd.
Having long been active helping those less fortunate in the community, Boyd was drawn to Baylor because of its commitment to its mission. Boyd is a member and has served on the board of directors for the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers. He also has served on the board of trustees for Dallas Heritage Village. He is also a long-standing member of the Committee for Qualified Judiciary.
