McLane Children’s Hospital Celebrates Five Years and New Name

Hospital is now Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center

Temple, Texas Baylor Scott & White Health announced the first name change of an existing hospital in Temple. McLane Children's Hospital at Scott & White, shortly after its fifth anniversary October 4, is now Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's Medical Center.

The October 8 event included birthday cake, fun and games for the children, information on staying healthy, local vendors, presentations by Baylor Scott & White officials, and the unveiling of new signage on the hospital building and at the entrances of the Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's campus.
The celebration highlighted the hospital's rapid growth in five years, which has created more treatments, services, and job opportunities for residents of Temple and Central Texas.

“We have been proud to serve children of all ages in Central Texas and beyond for five years and counting. With our new name, we continue our commitment to providing quality health services and to expanding them throughout Texas for children in need of specialty care. It's not hard to believe the growth we have achieved in five years; it shows how valuable this children's hospital is to this community,” said John L. Boyd III, MD, MBA, CPE, FAAP, president and chief medical officer of Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's.
Since opening on October 4, 2011, the hospital has had approximately:

  • 960,000 clinic visits
  • 111,000 radiology exams
  • 106,000 emergency department visits
  • 55,000 physical therapy/occupational therapy visits
  • 21,000 surgeries, and
  • 18,000 inpatient discharges.

As Central Texas' only children's hospital between Dallas and Austin with a designated Level II pediatric trauma center and specialized transport ambulance and helicopter, Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's has expanded its reach to Central Texas communities and beyond through 12 pediatric clinics in Round Rock, College Station, Temple, Waco and Killeen, serving some 30,000 square miles in Central Texas. In the next few years, McLane Children's hopes to start construction on a new hospital tower that will increase surgical capacity, services, and bed space, and bring more providers to take care of the growing needs of children.

“With great success comes great responsibility, and we are experiencing occasions when we are near capacity at McLane Children's Medical Center. It is our responsibility to meet the need for expanded services and to provide facilities capable of meeting this demand. While our community and organization generously funded the renovation of an existing facility into McLane Children's five years ago, we have outgrown the facility and are in the early stages of planning an expansion with more intensive care unit and medical surgical beds, additional operating rooms and improved amenities to care for children and their families, especially those who travel long distances to receive care here.” said Ellen Hansen, RN, BSN, MS, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer of Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's.
