Texas-Sized Baby Boom Hits Fort Worth Hospital

In just 41 hours, 48 babies were welcomed into the world

Labor and delivery teams at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth's Andrews Women's Hospital have been busy delivering an unprecedented number of babies this week.

Between June 26 and June 28, staff delivered 27 baby girls and 21 baby boys, including one set of twins. The name "Isaiah" was a popular one: three of the babies born during the boom were given the name.

The hospital averages about 15 deliveries per day, and welcomed nearly 5700 babies in 2017, including 101 sets of twins and 2 sets of triplets.

The twins born during this week's baby boom are the 41st set of twins born at Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth's Andrews Women's Hospital this year.

This is the second baby boom to happen at a Baylor Scott & White hospital in the past two weeks: Between June 17 and June 19, staff at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas welcomed 42 babies in 48 hours. At one point, nine mothers were ready to deliver at the same time. Their babies were born within 40 minutes.

While both hospitals are known as high-volume delivery hospitals within their respective cities, the influx in births was considered rare and exceptional.

Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth's Andrews Women's Hospital is a complete healthcare destination designed just for women. The hospital offers a Labor & Delivery unit, New Family Center and a 63-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) designed to care for even the tiniest infants, some weighing less than two pounds, as well as those born with serious medical challenges. It's one of the largest NICUs in North Texas, with a highly skilled team of neonatologists on the medical staff, neonatal nurse practitioners on the allied health professional staff, respiratory therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, social workers, chaplains and registered nurses working together 24/7.
