COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – College Station is expanding to better serve the growing community. Twenty-seven patient rooms, new nursing stations and an auditorium are being added to the hospital after years of steadily increasing patient volumes.
"We continue to build on our commitment to provide quality care by investing in the needs of our community," said Jason Jennings, president, Baylor Scott & White – College Station. "This new space will allow our dedicated team to treat an additional 1,700 patients a year."
To care for the increased number of patients, the hospital will create eight new positions, with more job openings anticipated as volumes increase over time.
The first phase of the expansion, which opens this month, adds 16 beds, new nursing stations and a new auditorium to the fifth floor. The second and third phases of the expansion will be complete in January and February 2020, respectively, and will include the addition of eight patient rooms to women's and children's services on the third floor, and three patient rooms in the emergency department.
Commitment to Quality Care
The new patient rooms and nursing stations are designed to enhance both the patients'experience and the medical team's ability to care for patients. The rooms will be equipped with high-tech beds being deployed throughout the Baylor Scott & White system to help prevent falls and allow for maximum patient care quality. The beds illuminate when they detect individuals walking by to signify that appropriate alarms are activated and the bed is in a safe position with brakes activated. There are motion-activated night-lights on the beds, which also have the ability to verbally prompt the staff that the call light may not be connected and alert when a patient may need assistance.
"For more than 34 years we have served the medical needs of this community," said William Rayburn, MD, chief medical officer, Baylor Scott & White – College Station. "This expansion is just one of the ways we are able to strengthen our service. As we expand our hospital's capabilities, we look forward to caring for more residents in College Station and surrounding areas."
