Pathway to Excellence™ Journey Achieved

Recognizes Baylor As Best Place to Work for Nurses

Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie has achieved the Pathway to Excellence™ designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

The Pathway to Excellence designation identifies the elements of work environments where nurses can flourish. The designation substantiates the professional satisfaction of nurses at Baylor Waxahachie, and identifies it as one of the best places to work.

“This designation recognizes Baylor Waxahachie’s commitment to nursing excellence and overall clinical quality,” says Cindy Murray, MBA, MHA, RN, CENP, CNOR, chief nursing officer, Baylor Waxahachie. “Pathways to Excellence™ helps Baylor Waxahachie to recruit other great nurses and shares with the DFW Metroplex that Baylor Waxahachie is a great place to provide quality patient centered care.”

Baylor Waxahachie earned the Pathway to Excellence™ distinction by successfully completing a thorough review process that documents foundational quality initiatives in creating a positive work environment — as defined by nurses and supported by research. These initiatives were met by Baylor Waxahachie’s practices, policies, and culture. Nurses at Baylor Waxahachie verify the presence of the criteria through participation in a confidential online survey.

“The Pathway to Excellence™ program recognizes the essential elements of an ideal nursing practice environment,” said Ellen Swartwout, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, director of Pathway to Excellence for ANCC. “The focus is on the workplace, balanced lifestyle, whether there is a collaborative atmosphere, positive nurse job satisfaction and retention, and that nurses feel their contributions are valued.”  ANCC Pathway to Excellence

When applying for the Pathway to Excellence™ designation, hospitals must submit a written description of how they are meeting the 12 standards that range from control of nursing practice to professional development opportunities and having a chief nursing officer involved at levels of the organization. A three-nurse review panel evaluates the application. Swartwout estimates it takes facilities between six months to a year to complete the application.

As a Pathway to Excellence™ designee, Baylor Waxahachie is committed to nurses, to what nurses identify as important to their practice, and to valuing nurses' contributions in the workplace. This designation confirms to the public that nurses working at Baylor Waxahachie know their efforts are supported.
