New Behavioral Health Center Opens At Baylor Plano

The days of treating illness such as obesity, heart disease, lung disease, cancer, or chronic pain from only a biological or physical perspective are long gone.

Conditions like these are initiated, exacerbated, or perpetuated by psychological, behavioral, or social factors. Effective treatment requires an integrated team which collectively treats the whole person. The new Behavioral Health Center at Baylor Plano offers behavioral health consults for patients struggling with a medical condition or associated problems. The following services are offered at the new center:

  • Treatment of psychological problems including:

    • grief / bereavement

  • Pre-surgical psychological evaluations for weight loss surgery

Jamile (Jay) Ashmore, PhD, will serve as clinical director of the Behavioral Health Center. Dr. Ashmore is a licensed psychologist and obtained received his PhD in clinical psychology from The Ohio State University. He completed his clinical training in Medical Psychology at Duke University Medical Center and was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at The Cooper Institute in Dallas. Prior to joining Baylor Plano, Dr. Ashmore served as Vice President at the Cooper Aerobics Center and maintained a clinical practice. He currently has appointments as clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler and in the Department of Psychology at Southern Methodist University. Dr. Ashmore’s ongoing research focuses on the biological, psychological, and social aspects of chronic disease.
