After nearly a decade serving as vice president of external and government affairs for Baylor Health Care System, Kristi Hoyl is taking on the role of chief government affairs officer for Baylor Scott & White Health, the newly formed parent company for the combined health systems of Scott & White Healthcare and Baylor Health Care System. As chief government affairs officer, Hoyl is responsible for cultivating relationships at the local, state and federal levels of government and focusing on legislative agendas as they relate to health care issues.
"One of my goals is always to educate our representatives and leaders about the importance and scope of the work we do every day, and how seriously we take our responsibility to provide all members of the community with access to quality health care when they need it," says Hoyl.
Hoyl has spent most of her professional career working to address important community issues and big challenges. Prior to joining Baylor Health Care System in 2004, she developed the Education is Freedom Foundation for 7-Eleven, Inc. This national foundation focuses attention and financial support on helping students, who otherwise would not have the opportunity, pursue a college education.
Hoyl served as chief of staff to the Mayor of Dallas from 1991 to 2001. In addition to coordinating a range of successful programs with other government, corporate and not-for-profit entities, she oversaw special projects for the Mayor's Office, such as launching the Mayor's Annual Summer Reading Program and developing the Mayor's Annual Summer Jobs Program.
Hoyl is active in the Dallas community and has received numerous civic awards, including the Boys and Girls Club Rising Star award, the Downtown Renaissance Award, the Volunteer Nurses Association Volunteer of the Year award and participated in The Marshall Memorial Fellowship and the British American Partnership among others.
"Building strong ties and clear lines of communication between government entities and health care providers has never been more important," says Hoyl. "Together, we can meet the challenges we face when it comes to delivering on the promise of making high quality health care available to everyone."
