Hospital Land Purchase Makes Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie Part of New Front Door to City

Late last week on Nov. 30, Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie closed on the purchase of land in anticipation of building a new hospital. The land sits on the northeast quadrant at I-35 East and US Highway 287, the site of the former St. Gobain glass factory.

“As you may recall, several years ago Baylor Health Care System purchased our original piece of property on the northwest side of this intersection for development. It was the best piece of property available to us at the time,” says Jay Fox, president, Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie. “Since then, this additional piece of land, which better suits our needs, became available. By selecting this site, the future hospital can be part of the new front door to the Waxahachie community.”

The newly purchased property offers benefits of visibility from two major traffic corridors for superior accessibility to visitors and patients; and existing availability of water, sewage and other utilities which could potentially speed up construction timeline. Baylor Health Care System maintains ownership of the original piece of property on the northwest side and will continue to look for opportunities for the property.

“We soon will announce the architect for this project,” explains Fox. “We have already narrowed the selection down to the final two candidates. Once that happens, we will enter the design phase of the project. We call this a stage three estimate. It includes detailed renderings of the building and floor plans that are actual construction drawings and will allow us to have an accurate cost on the development project.” Once these steps are complete, Baylor Waxahachie administration will return to Baylor Health Care System board of trustees for final approval to build the new hospital campus.

Board chairman, Bob Dyess notes, “Our board of trustees enthusiastically supports the building of the new hospital. Our aim at Baylor Waxahachie is to make it the best place to give and receive quality health care in a location that is accessible to patients and their families. Baylor has achieved that goal, as is shown by our Top 100 Hospitals designation. The new hospital will give us the additional space to have the ability to care for our growing population for many years to come. “
