Dr. Emily Hebert Wins 2011 Anson Jones, MD, Award for Media Excellence

Marks Third Consecutive Year a Baylor Physician Named Recipient

Baylor Health Care System’s Emily Hebert, MD, was recently awarded the 2011 Texas Medical Association (TMA) Ans on Jones, MD, Award in the Physician Excellence in Reporting category for her work as the medical expert on the local ABC affiliate WFAA Channel8.

This is the third consecutive year that a Baylor physician has received this prestigious honor. The award was presented to David Winter, MD, in 2009 for his reports on KRLD News Radio 1080, and then to Michelle Ho, MD, in 2010 for her work on KTVT Channel 11.

The Anson Jones, MD, Awards are presented annually by TMA to honor members of the Texas news media for excellence in communicating health information to the public. The Award in the Physician Excellence in Reporting honors excellent medical news reporting by a Texas physician. Any physician leaders who regularly report the news of medicine on their local television station, radio station, or in their local newspaper are eligible. Dr. Hebert’s winning entries were “The Impact of Arthritis” and “A Difficult Decision — The PSA Test.”

Dr. Hebert appears live every Friday on WFAA’s Midday news program.As the station’s medical expert, Dr. Hebert is regularly interviewed to give insight into current medical or health-related topics. Her opinion and expertise is also often called upon in breaking news situations.

Dr. Hebert was selected for the position by WFAA-TV after a rigorous audition process and has served as a medical contributor since March 13, 2009. Board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics, Dr. Hebert is a hospitalist on the medical staff at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.
