Andrew Masica, MD, MSCI, vice president of Clinical Innovation for Baylor Health Care System, is the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council’s (DFWHC) choice for 2012 Young Healthcare Executive of the Year. The award honors youthful North Texas professionals who demonstrate the key abilities of successful health care leaders.
“Dr. Masica has been a great innovator in his field,” says W. Stephen Love, president and CEO of DFWHC. “His work on clinical processes has helped improve the performance of Baylor hospitals.”
In addition to his efforts in health care delivery research, Dr. Masica has been involved in implementing clinical decision support as a part of Baylor’s electronic health record adoption. He also serves as co-chair of the Baylor Sepsis Task Force and has overseen the creation of standardized order sets and process reports for sepsis care. This work has contributed to a significant reduction in mortality from sepsis observed at Baylor hospitals over the past three years.
Dr. Masica will be presented the award Oct. 18 during DFWHC’s annual awards luncheon at the Arlington Convention Center. James Carville and Mary Matalin will serve as keynote speakers, while T. Boone Pickens will receive the Distinguished Health Service Award.
The DFWHC board of trustees created the Young Healthcare Executive award in 2005 to recognize young men and women in health care. Nominees must be 40 years of age or younger and employed at a DFWHC-member hospital. The DFWHC is an 80-member hospital trade association committed to the continuous improvement of patient care.
