Brother Bill’s Helping Hand to Showcase New Facility on June 16

Baylor Health Care System donates $1 million toward new location, operations

Baylor Health Care System, a longtime supporter of Brother Bill's Helping Hand, is giving $1 million to the faith-based nonprofit to support its expanded education, health, and family support services at its new location. The public is invited to see the new location, at 3906 N. Westmoreland, during an Open House on June 16 from 10am - Noon.

“We are happy to support Brother Bill’s Helping Hand ministry and its life-changing work in West Dallas in helping to build healthier communities,” said Joel Allison, president and CEO of Baylor Health Care System.

For more than five years, physicians on staff at Baylor Health Care System medical centers have volunteered their time at the Brother Bill's Helping Hand Community Clinic, which was designed to be a medical home for residents of West Dallas. Over the years volunteer physicians have included Dr. Amy Anderson, Dr. Amby Bindra, Dr. Brad Bowman, Dr. Tony Brucks, Dr. Ken Killen, Dr. Mike Milner, and Dr. Richard Salter. Other support has come from the Baylor Health Care System Faith In Action Initiatives. For example, through its Second Life Resources initiative, Baylor has donated exam tables, otoscopes, basic medical supplies, and more.

“Baylor’s donation to our capital campaign will help make the vision of a transformed life become a reality for even more of our neighbors,” said Suzanne Griffin, Executive Director of Brother Bill’s Helping Hand.  “The new building will be so much more than just added space in a new environment. It will shine like a beacon of hope in West Dallas as more people become involved in education and training programs.”

For over 70 years Brother Bill’s Helping Hand has met the physical and spiritual needs of its neighbors in the 75212 zip code of Dallas.  The faith-based nonprofit began by dispensing food from a closet in a tiny West Dallas church. Today Brother Bill’s Helping Hand is celebrating the completion of its new home on Westmoreland, and the positive impact it will continue to have on lives of West Dallas residents.
