Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock Celebrates 10 Years of Service

Cancer center scheduled to open next month

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock, formerly called Scott & White University Medical Center celebrates its 10th anniversary this week.

On, July 30, 2007, the Scott & White Hospital - Round Rock opened its doors to patients in Williamson County. The 101-bed community hospital has served residents in five counties, including Williamson, Travis, Hays, Bastrop, and Caldwell. Now part of Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas, the hospital looks forward to serving more patients in the future.

"Our team's dedication to this community has made the last decade of service possible," said Jay Fox, president, Baylor Scott & White Health – Austin/Round Rock Region. "It is our privilege to be part of the lives of so many in Williamson County, and we look forward to serving more Texans over the next decade."

In ten years the hospital has served more than:

  • 185,000 patients
  • 53,800 surgeries performed
  • 225,000 visits to the emergency department
  • 5,500 babies born
  • 46,700 patient discharges

"We have experienced tremendous support of the Williamson county community over the last ten years." said Rob Watson, MD, chief medical officer, Baylor Scott & White Health – Austin/Round Rock Region, who has been part of the team since before the medical center opened. "This support has allowed us to grow our hospital into a comprehensive, fully integrated medical campus.  We are continuing this growth with the addition of our cancer center which is set to open next month."

The new Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center – Round Rock, slated to open in late August, will be adjacent to the hospital and its specialty clinics.  The new facility will become the first comprehensive cancer center in Williamson County and will provide enhanced cancer diagnostic and treatment services, cancer screening, and long-term monitoring to patients in its five-county service area.

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock also is the administration headquarters for the Baylor Scott & White Health – Austin/Round Rock region. For more information about the hospital and its services, visit http://www.sw.org/location/round-rock-medical-center.
