Baylor Health Care System has been named 18th among the nation's Top 100 integrated health care networks (IHNs) by SDI, a leading health care market insight and analytics firm and the nation's premier rating system for IHNs.
Each year, SDI evaluates IHNs on their performance and degree of integration—the extent to which the health care system includes a hospital organization that also provides acute patient care, a multispecialty medical care delivery system, the capability of contracting for any other needed services, and a payer.
SDI evaluated 576 non-specialty, local and regional networks in the U.S. according to each network's ability to operate as a unified organization in eight categories including: integration, integrated technology, contractual capabilities, outpatient utilization, financial stability, services and access, hospital utilization and physicians.
"Participating in the SDI Integrated Health Care Network Survey benefits our patients by demonstrating BHCS's commitment to integrate and standardize best practices across all of our facilities," says David J. Ballard, MD, MSPH, PH.D., FACP, Baylor's senior vice president and chief quality officer. "For example, as part of the BHCS integration journey, our implementation of the Heart Failure order set across all BHCS acute care hospitals has improved patient care for the people admitted to our hospitals with heart failure. If all US hospitals would implement this same integrated practice, then approximately 15,000 lives and $2 billion in heart failure hospitalization costs could be saved annually."
