Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall to Open March 10

Hospital care, conveniently located, from well-known leader in healthcare

When Mayor David Sweet joins other city leaders in cutting the ribbon on Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall, they will help bring convenient access to hospital-level care from a well-known name to this lakeside community. Adding to the list of reasons that residents in the area love to call Rockwall home, the new Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall opens as the first center of its kind from Baylor in Rockwall County when it begins seeing patients at 1975 Alpha, Suite 100, on March 10, 2014.

For residents in this fastest-growing county in Texas that prides itself on a small-town feel and old-fashioned values with a strong focus on family, having the convenience of quality care in the area is important.

"When you or a loved one is sick, whether it is an emergency medical need or when a hospital stay is necessary, we know how important it is to have quality care available and accessible in your neighborhood," explained John Wood, R.N., regional CEO and CNO, Baylor Emergency Medical Centers. "We are committed to providing the kind of care we would want for our own families."

Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall represents a compassionate, efficient and patient-centered approach to the delivery of emergency medical and inpatient care. The first of its kind in Rockwall County, this new emergency hospital will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is staffed with emergency medicine physician specialists and experienced nursing and clinical staff. The facility will have an emergency department with seven beds, diagnostic imaging including X-ray, a CT scanner and ultrasound, a laboratory and an eight-bed inpatient unit for those requiring an admission for additional medical services. The 36,000-square-foot facility has a second floor that will be dedicated to medical offices.

Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall will offer emergency medical and inpatient care that is "patient-centric" in its innovative approach.  From the moment the patient enters the facility, the experienced medical staff, systems and technology will be ready to meet the patient's needs in a way that is convenient, accessible, efficient and compassionate.

"By providing operationally efficient facilities and focused alignment with current health care trends, our community-based approach prioritizes limited inpatient stays, efficient emergency rooms and cost-effective pricing in a smaller campus setting," said Wood.

Unlike urgent care centers, which are designed to handle non-life-threatening medical complaints, or free-standing emergency departments, Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall will be a licensed hospital, providing clinical quality, and efficient operations. The facility is designed to handle everything from breathing problems to heart attacks, broken bones to strokes, traumas, bug bites, and anything that could lead people to seek emergency medical care. Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall is a result of the system's continued leadership in providing care in an area that has experienced robust population growth.

An added benefit to this community hospital is the inpatient beds it offers in a convenient, personalized setting, close to home. If a patient requires an overnight stay, Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall offers comfortable inpatient beds and around-the-clock care.

"A great patient benefit is that an ER-trained physician is on-site, 24/7," noted Wood. "The smaller setting allows for attentive care for those patients who require overnight medical care."

At Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall, patients have convenient access to:

  • An ER physician, whom they can usually see within minutes – with an average door-to-doc time of less than 10 minutes
  • Hospital-level amenities, including a dedicated inpatient wing
  • In-house laboratory for prompt results
  • On-site imaging, including X-ray, CT scan, and ultrasound
  • Convenient, compassionate care from a trusted name in healthcare

Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Rockwall opens to the public March 10 at 8 a.m., after a ribbon-cutting event March 6. It is the first location in Rockwall County, and is part of a group of six hospitals opening in 2014 in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to provide communities with convenient access to quality care.
