Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Keller to Open Dec.18

Hospital care, conveniently located in the community, from well-known leader in healthcare

For the 40,000 people who reside in the city of Keller, there is no better place to call home. In December, residents will have one more reason to enjoy the community that Money magazine named seventh-best place to live in the U.S. (2009), as convenient access to hospital-level care from a well-known name will be close by: Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Keller opens at 620 S. Main, Suite 100, on Dec. 18.

“By providing operationally efficient facilities and focused alignment with current health care trends, our community-based approach prioritizes limited inpatient stays, efficient emergency rooms and cost-effective pricing in a smaller campus setting,” said John Wood, M.D., regional CEO and CNO, Baylor Emergency Medical Center.

Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Keller represents a compassionate, efficient and patient-centered approach to the delivery of emergency medical and inpatient care. The new emergency hospital will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is staffed with emergency medicine physician specialists on the medical staff, as well as experienced nursing and clinical staff. The facility will have an emergency department with seven beds, diagnostic imaging including X-ray, a CT scanner and ultrasound, a laboratory and an eight-bed inpatient unit for those requiring an admission for additional medical services.

“When you or a loved one is sick, whether it is an emergency medical need or when a hospital stay is necessary, we know how important it is to have quality care available and accessible in your neighborhood,” explained Wood. “We are committed to providing the kind of care we would want for our own families.”

Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Keller will offer emergency medical and inpatient care that is “patient-centric” in its innovative approach.  From the moment the patient enters the facility, the experienced medical staff, systems and technology will be ready to meet the patient’s needs in a way that is convenient, accessible, efficient and compassionate.

Unlike urgent care centers, which are designed to handle non-life-threatening medical complaints, or free-standing emergency departments, Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Keller will be a licensed hospital, adhering to the standards of licensing, clinical quality, and operations. This facility is designed to provide a highly efficient, patient-centered experience. Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Keller is a result of the system’s continued leadership in providing care in an area that has experienced robust population growth.

An added benefit to this community hospital is the inpatient beds it offers in a convenient, personalized setting, close to home. If a patient requires an overnight stay, Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Keller offers comfortable inpatient beds and around-the-clock care.

“A great patient benefit is that an ER-trained physician is on-site, 24/7,” said Wood. “The smaller setting allows for very attentive care for those patients who require overnight medical care.”

At Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Keller, patients have convenient access to:

  • An ER physician, whom they can usually see within minutes – with an average door-to-doc time of less than 10 minutes
  • Hospital-level amenities, including a dedicated inpatient wing
  • In-house laboratory for prompt results
  • On-site imaging, including X-ray, CT scan, and ultrasound
  • Convenient, compassionate care from a trusted name in healthcare

Baylor Emergency Medical Center meets or exceeds the standards set forth by the National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (NIAHO), pursuant to the authority granted to Det Norske Veritas (DNV) by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In-house laboratories are certified by the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA), the premier independent clinical accreditor, to meet stringent Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.

Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Keller opens to the public Dec. 18, with a ribbon-cutting event Dec. 11. It is the first of six locations scheduled to open across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in the next year as part of the system’s innovative approach to providing under-served communities with quality, convenient health care.
