Rosemary Luquire, RN, PhD, senior voice president and corporate chief nursing officer for Baylor Health Care System recently was named Distinguished Alumni, Texas Women's University. She received her doctorate in nursing from Texas Women's University (TWU) in 1997. In her role at Baylor, Dr. Luquire is responsible for strategic planning and operations for professional nursing practice as well as patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Prior to assuming her current position, she was the senior vice president, chief nursing officer and chief quality officer at the St. Luke's Episcopal Health System in Houston. Under her leadership, St. Luke's was the first hospital in Texas and the Southwest to be named a Magnet hospital. Magnet designation is a national program that assures health care consumers of the highest standards of nursing practice and innovation.
Dr. Luquire's many honors and accomplishments include the following: Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing; David J. Fine Distinguished Lecturer at the University of Southern Mississippi; Nursing Media Electronic Award from Region VI of Sigma Theta Tau International; TWU Great 100 Nursing Alumni; University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Outstanding Alumni; Outstanding Nursing Leader, Texas Nurses Association; Premier National Award for Quality, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital System; Houston Award for Excellence from the Better Business Bureau and the University of Houston; and Research Utilization Award from Region III of Sigma Theta Tau International.
She has published 29 articles in professional journals and given 80 professional presentations, including eight international and 21 national presentations. Her professional volunteer services include the board of trustees, Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton; vice chair of the Magnet Commission, American Nurses Credentialing Center; Chief Nursing Officers Council of the University Health System Consortium; McDonald Fund Grants Committee; and president of District 9, Texas Nurses Association. She currently serves on advisory boards for four university schools of nursing, including TWU.
