On Monday, May 4, Andrews Women's Hospital, part of Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth, will receive the "2009 Innovation in Women's Health" award at the Snowmass Institute, a national women's health conference for hospitals/health systems-based women's health, nursing, marketing, operations and strategic planning professionals. The conference offers profiles of successful women's health programs/centers, business model development, marketing practices, insights, best practices and service line management.
Opened 14 months ago, the Paul and Judy Andrews Women's Hospital provides comprehensive care for every phase of a woman's life – from childbearing age through menopause and beyond.
The 190,000-square-foot facility and medical office building – attached to Baylor All Saints Medical Center for easy access – offers comprehensive maternity services, the area's largest Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), gynecologic care, an antenatal testing center, and a Midwife Center. Specialty services include a nurse navigator for breast cancer patients and services for reproductive medicine. Baylor All Saints will soon be opening a comprehensive breast facility, the Joan Katz Breast Center, and new centers for reproductive medicine.
"Our goal here at the Andrews Women's Hospital is to provide quality care one patient at a time," says Janice Whitmire, Andrews administrator. "We are committed to care for women for their lifetime with a dedicated team of physicians, employees and volunteers. Receiving this award just 14 months after opening this facility is thrilling to everyone involved in the project."
The four-level hospital includes 25 labor and delivery rooms, eight integrated operating suites, 63 NICU beds, 28 ante partum beds, 12 day patient surgery rooms, 18 gynecological inpatient rooms, 64 postpartum rooms and 64 well-baby nursery beds.
The Andrews Women's Hospital offers special amenities for comfort and convenience – from the Simply Mom's Mother and Baby Boutique to upgraded suite packages, a Starbucks®, the Gordon Courtyard and water fountain, an outpatient pharmacy and valet parking.
In its first year of operation, Andrew's clinical staff participated in more than 5,000 deliveries, which is more than double the number of deliveries from the previous year.
The Andrews Women's Hospital will be featured in a future issue of The Ireland Report on Succeeding in Women's Health, a publication published by the Snowmass Institute. The Institute is a division of The Ireland Corporation founded in 1975 to provide strategic planning and marketing programs for the health care industry.
For fiscal year 2008, Baylor Health Care System reported $429.5 million in community benefit, which includes providing care for charity patients and patients enrolled in government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, as well as the unreimbursed costs of medical education, research and community programs.
