Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine received two national awards-- Get With The Guidelines®–Heart Failure Gold Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology and Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
“These national recognitions are a testament to the great work of our team in providing quality, evidenced-based care to heart failure and stroke patients,” says Steve Newton, president of the West Region at Baylor Health Care System.
The heart failure award signifies that Baylor Grapevine reached an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients according to the guidelines of care recommended by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology.
“Recent studies show that patients treated in hospitals participating in the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure program receive a higher quality of care and may experience better outcomes,” said Lee H. Schwamm, M.D., chair of the Get With The Guidelines National Steering Committee and director of the TeleStroke and Acute Stroke Services at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass. “The Baylor Grapevine team is to be commended for their commitment to improving the care of their patients.”
According to the American Heart Association, about 5.7 million people suffer from heart failure. However, many patients can lead a full, enjoyable life when their condition is managed with proper medications and devices and with healthy lifestyle changes.
The stroke award recognizes Baylor Grapevine’s commitment and success in implementing quality care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines. Baylor Grapevine achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with six of 10 Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care.
In addition to the Get With The Guideline-Stroke award, Baylor Grapevine has been recognized as a recipient of the American Stroke Association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll, for improving stroke care.
“Baylor Grapevine is to be commended for its commitment to implementing care guidelines and protocols for treating stroke patients,” said Schwamm. “The full implementation of acute care and secondary prevention recommendations and guidelines is a critical step in saving the lives and improving outcomes of stroke patients.”
According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is one of the leading causes of death and serious, long-term disability in the United States. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds. To learn more about heart failure and stroke services at Baylor Grapevine, please call 1.800.4BAYLOR or visit BaylorHealth.com/Grapevine.
