On Thursday, Nov. 21 at 2:30 p.m. Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price will join officials from Baylor Health Care System, United Surgical Partners and local dignitaries to celebrate a new and expanded surgical hospital, Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth. The new facility will be at 1800 Park Place Ave., Fort Worth.
The new Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth will be an 82,000-square-foot 3-story, acute care facility built on a 5.3 acre property with a physician office building as part of their campus. Inside will be 30, all private inpatient rooms, including four intensive care beds. The imaging department is equipped with digital X-ray, CT scanner and MRI. The 24/7 emergency department for minor emergencies will grow to three beds from one-bed at the current 750 12th Avenue location.
“We have literally outgrown this current building,” said Roger Rhodes, chief executive officer, Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth. “Our education department and business departments moved out to make more room for patient care. The new location gives us a larger campus, better parking for patients, and opportunity to enhance services. We are also excited to be part of the redevelopment of Park Place.”
New medical services to be added are bariatric surgery. The facility already performs a broad range of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, specializing in orthopedic, spine, pain management, GYN, urology, general surgery, plastic surgery, and ear nose and throat surgery. An onsite dining room and expanded dining options for patients and families will be added in the new location.
Just prior to announcing this event, Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth achieved national quality recognition by two health care accrediting agencies. The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in United States, awarded a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures to Baylor Surgical Hospital of Fort Worth in early November.
On Nov. 18, Press Ganey awarded the facility a Guardian of Excellence award for its emergency department operations. This award honors health care organizations that have reached the 95th percentile for patient satisfaction, employee engagement, or physician engagement surveys or clinical quality performance and is awarded annually based on one year of data.
“Seventy-five percent of our surgeries are outpatient,” said Rhodes. “If the patient doesn’t return home on the same day as the surgery, typically they stay 2.5 days. We provide very efficient and patient centered surgical care.” Dr. Bruce Bollinger is medical director of the hospital.
Unlike some competitors, Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth accepts Medicare and TriCare as well as commercial insurances. Anticipated completion date of the new hospital is September 2014.
Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth is a joint venture with the Baylor Health Care System, United Surgical Partners International and local physicians providing quality, patient centered care. The current facility at 750 12th Avenue in Fort Worth opened in 1998.
