Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance Sustains Strong Performance in Quality Measures, Saving CMS $104.5 Million

The accountable care organization remains a top performer as 65+ efforts continue to expand

Dallas, Texas – New data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) shows that Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance continues to operate as a top performer among more than 450 accountable care organizations (ACOs) that participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP).

As the largest clinically integrated network in Texas, Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance exceeds mean performance for nearly all quality measures tracked by the MSSP, which evaluates preventive health, chronic condition management and patient/caregiver experience. According to data released Sept. 29, Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance saved CMS $104.5 million in 2024.

"As the Medicare population grows, so do our strategic efforts to serve and empower them," said Kimberly McMillin, MD, family medicine physician and Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance board chair. "With enhanced services and expanded care teams solely dedicated to their care needs, we're personalizing care with the support needed to live well."

Providers participating in Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance are committed to proactive, preventive care—helping patients stay healthy and avoid unnecessary hospital visits. Compared to the national MSSP median, BSWQA patients visited emergency departments 10% less often and experienced lower overall healthcare costs.

Providing high-quality care at a lower-than-expected cost

The new data from CMS shows Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance provided high-quality care while delivering savings similar to previous years, despite a higher-than-expected healthcare inflation rate. As a result, Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance is expected to receive $76.8 million in shared savings, which it will reinvest in initiatives that benefit Medicare members in the communities it serves.

"These results reflect the unwavering dedication of our team and providers and the real-life impact we're making together," said Stephanie Motter, executive administrator of Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance. "It's rewarding to see data affirm our commitment to helping our patients live well, every single day."

"Our participation in MSSP helps drive best practices and continuously elevates the patient experience. We believe that every individual deserves access to compassionate, high-quality care that supports their healthiest life — and these outcomes drive us to set new standards for every community we serve."

With these best practices in mind, Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance continues to expand its successful care management programs from Medicare populations to employers. As a result, Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance also reduces the total cost of care for commercial members enrolled in direct-to-employer care management programs.
