Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance is Top Performer in the Country for Earned Savings

The accountable care organization improved scores for all quality measures and demonstrates excellence for the fifth consecutive year

DALLAS, Texas – Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance has proven once again that it is a forward-thinking, national role model for delivering value-based care. Data (released August 24, 2023) shows the Quality Alliance (QA) saved CMS $83.6 million through the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) in 2022. As a result, the QA is expected to receive $61.4 million in shared savings which it will reinvest in initiatives that benefit Medicare members in the communities it serves.

"Our MSSP results underscore our commitment to delivering high-quality, cost-effective care," said Jenny Reed, Baylor Scott & White Health's senior vice president of value-based care. "The Quality Alliance continuously pursues innovative ways to manage care and evolve along with our patients as well as the changing Medicare landscape."

According to a CMS press release, "As of January 2023, Shared Savings Program ACOs include over 573,000 participating clinicians who provide care to almost 11 million people with Medicare. Based on the program's success and opportunities to continually improve value for people with Medicare and the healthcare system, CMS has set a goal that 100% of people with Traditional Medicare will be part of an accountable care relationship by 2030."

Nearly 500 ACOs participated in MSSP in 2022. The Quality Alliance ranks first in the nation for earned savings and is one of the country's top performers for the fifth year in a row. MSSP providers who excelled in quality measures may also receive shared savings.

"Our clinicians' dedication helped the QA achieve year-over-year improvement in every quality score measured by CMS," said Dr. Robert Waterhouse, chief medical officer, Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance. "Our teams are focused on sustainably improving outcomes through proactive and preventive care."
