Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie has been designated a Level IV trauma center by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), one of two Level IV trauma centers in Ellis County.
Since opening its new location in 2014, the hospital has seen and treated more than 289,781 emergencies. In the last fiscal year, more than 64,796 people visited the emergency department at Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie.
"We are excited to achieve the Level IV trauma designation," said Will Turner, president, Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie. "I commend everyone who worked diligently at achieving this designation, as it is evidence of our commitment to this community."
A Level IV Trauma Facility, as designated by DSHS, provides many services:
- Resuscitation
- Stabilization
- Facilitation of appropriate transfer of major and severe trauma patients to a higher-level trauma facility when medically necessary
- Education in trauma-related topics for healthcare professionals and the public and targeted injury prevention programs
"Achieving a Level IV trauma center designation is a testament to the dedication that Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie has to the patients of Ellis County and the surrounding region," said Milind Chinoy, DO, trauma medical director, Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie.
The hospital also is designated a primary stroke center by DSHS.
