Only Central Texas hospital to receive national award based on outcomes

ROUND ROCK, Texas – For the second year in a row, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock earned a spot among the top 50 U.S. cardiovascular hospitals. IBM Watson Health teamed up with Fortune recently announcing their list and Baylor Scott & White – Round Rock ranked No. 10 among community hospitals.

“We are honored to join such a prestigious group of hospitals in providing advanced cardiovascular care,” said Vijay Divakaran, MD, cardiology section chief at Baylor Scott & White – Round Rock. “Credit goes to every member of our outstanding team who bring their A-game to work every day. They take care of our patients like they would take care of a family member.”

IBM Watson Health analyzed data for almost 1,000 hospitals in a variety of categories including outcomes, patient experience and cost. Baylor Scott & White – Round Rock is the only hospital recognized in Central Texas, earning the top spot among the community hospitals for percutaneous coronary intervention. For this added acknowledgement, the hospitals were ranked on factors such as average length of hospital stay and average cost per case.

“We are proud of our growing cardiology program,” said Rafael Gonzalez, MD, a cardiologist and associate chief medical officer Baylor Scott & White – Austin Region. “We want to help Texans have access to innovative cardiology care.”

The cardiology program at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock continues to expand to meet the needs of the growing community. More than a year ago, the hospital began offering a minimally invasive heart procedure, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, as well as adding an electrophysiology lab to diagnose and treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias.
