Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano is proud to announce Alfred Levy, M.D., F.A.A.F.P. as medical director of supportive and palliative care at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano and THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano.
Dr. Levy received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and went on to complete his family practice residency at Baylor College of Medicine. He comes to Baylor Plano from Family Medical Center at Garland where he served as a family practice physician since 1981.
In his new role Dr. Levy will focus on palliative care, an area of medicine that often deals with complex medical, psychosocial and spiritual issues in patients with life limiting circumstances. The primary mission of the palliative care program at Baylor Plano is to provide symptom burden relief to patients and to assist with advanced planning or direction. Palliative care is different from hospice care in that patients are often continuing active treatment with disease suppression as the goal. He will work with the primary care team and the subspecialty team on a referral basis to help improve the physical, psychosocial and spiritual symptoms associated with advanced illness.
“With Dr. Levy joining the Baylor Plano team we will be able to enhance the inpatient palliative care support we currently provide our patients and offer our patients extended outpatient palliative care consultations,” said Jerri Garison, president, Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano.
