Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie Recognized by Quality Texas Foundation

Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie's quality effort received statewide honors from the Quality Texas Foundation as one of three Texas organizations to receive an Achievement Level award.  This honor recognizes the hospital for its well-deployed, effective, systematic approaches to organizational management with good performance levels and trends evaluated against industry standards.  Jay Fox, president of Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie will accept the award June 7.

The non-profit Quality Texas Foundation was founded in 1993 by the Texas Governor's Office and was originated by Governor Ann Richards to encourage and recognize excellence using "Baldrige-based methodology" for organizations to achieve and sustain world-class performance.

"The award is an honor but not the end of our efforts, says Jay Fox, president, Baylor Waxahachie. "The bigger picture is that Baylor Waxahachie is engaged in a journey toward organizational excellence. We are very grateful to the Quality Texas Foundation for administering and promoting organizational excellence across industries within Texas. This award is a motivator to maintain our focus on continuous improvement of processes to deliver health care, strategic planning for the future; and development of our workforce to ensure that we are able to meet the health needs of our community."

The Texas Quality Foundation promotes five pillars of excellence:  leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, workforce focus, and process management.  In 2006, Baylor Waxahachie looked as these pillars or measures and compared their performance against them. From the initial assessment and gap analysis, the medical center saw opportunities for growth.

"Across the hospital, we acted upon these opportunities for improvement in our journey toward excellence," says Ameet Mehta, director of health care improvement, Baylor Waxahachie.

By utilizing the criteria for organizational excellence in its day to day operations, Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie is able to ensure delivery of ever-improving value to patients by opening new services, upgrading technology within hospital, and add physicians to medical staff. The hospital's development plans support building a regional hospital to meet the needs of Ellis County's growing population.

Baylor Waxahachie offers services in gastroenterology, pulmonology, anesthesiology, physiatry, urology, sleep medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, gynecology, emergency medicine, cardiology, radiology, nephrology, podiatry, plastic surgery, weight loss surgery, orthopedics and orthopedic joint surgery.
