Baylor Medical Center at McKinney Marks One-Year Anniversary

Hospital Celebrates First Year of Growing a Healthier Community

It was just over one year ago that Baylor Medical Center at McKinney opened its doors and began serving patients in McKinney and the surrounding communities. Since celebrating the  Grand Opening on July 6 of last year,  the hospital and medical campus has continued to expand.

In just one year, Baylor McKinney has cultivated a staff of more than 600 physicians and 550 employees. Together they have cared for more than 4600 in-patients, seen 24,000 emergency department visits, and delivered more than 1250 babies.

“It is hard to believe that we are celebrating our one year anniversary of caring for the families of McKinney and the surrounding communities,” says Scott Peek, FACHE, president of Baylor Medical Center at McKinney.  “From the beginning, our focus and passion has been, ‘How can we partner with our medical staff to positively impact what is already a wonderful community and make it even healthier over time”.

“Looking back over the past year, we are grateful for the trust people have placed in us to provide safe, quality, compassionate care.  We are in an era of unprecedented health care reform nationally, and we constantly are looking for ways to improve and meet the needs of the patient and the broader community.”

Over the past year, the dedicated staff and employees have worked hard to earn various awards and accreditations. These accomplishments include:

  • Earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC)
  • Named “Best Hospital” and “Best Emergency Department” in the McKinney and Allen areas by the readers of Living Magazine
  • Awarded the inaugural “Spirit of McKinney Moving Forward Award” for exceptional contributions to the community through investment and development
  • Earned accreditation by the American College of Radiologists for Mammography Services
  • Received the "Momentum Award" from the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce for contribution to economic development and job growth
  • Two Baylor McKinney leaders named among DFW’s 2013 “100 Great Nurses” by the Texas Nurse Association (TNA)
  • Awarded the 2013 “Best Medical Real Estate Deal” by the Dallas Business Journal

One-Year Anniversary Events
In honor of its one-year milestone, Baylor McKinney held a number of planned activities to reflect back on the success of the past year. Anniversary events included the opening of a new Baylor Overlook Park & Trail and the launch of a large-scale community service project.

The Baylor Overlook Park  includes a half mile trail, benches and beautiful stone features, all made possible with support from the McKinney Community Development Corporation.  A July-9th ribbon cutting officially marked the opening of the park to staff, visitors, patients and the community.

The new community service initiative, called “Baylor McKinney Gives Back,” will encourage hospital staff and employees to serve and help make the community a better place to live work and play. To celebrate one year of growing a healthier community, Baylor McKinney chose four local nonprofit organizations and sponsored planned volunteer opportunities for hospital staff and employees.
