Baylor McKinney Breast Center Earns Mammography Accreditation

Baylor Medical Center at McKinney has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Mammography is a specific type of imaging test that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women.

"This accreditation in mammography affirms the commitment of physicians and staff to provide women in our community with high quality imaging and breast care services," said Scott Peek, president of Baylor Medical Center at McKinney.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.

Located in the physician office building on the northwest corner of University Drive (Highway 380) and Lake Forest Drive, Baylor McKinney Breast Imaging Center offers a range of women’s imaging services for residents in and around McKinney, including  quality screening and diagnostic mammography, as well as bone density screenings.

The Breast Imaging Center is equipped with advanced technology for accurate diagnosis, including fully digital mammography units. This allows radiologists to manipulate the images and focus more clearly on any areas of concern.

Digital mammography also reduces the need to retake underdeveloped images, decreases unnecessary patient return visits and typically allows the patient to move through the screening process more quickly. Our location offers Computer–Aided Detection (CAD). This system provides a second review of screening mammograms for areas that may be of concern.
