Baylor All Saints Medical Centers announced today that Fatima Mallard, R.N. was the October 2007 recipient of the DAISY Award. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.
Mallard works in Medical Telemetry at Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth. "Fatima is consistently recognized by her co-workers as being a very supportive charge nurse. Her patients consistently recognize her as a provider of excellent, high-quality and compassionate care," says Stephen Heinrich, R.N., clinical manager, Medical Telemetry. "She enjoys mentoring new nurses and expertly teaches them time-management skills and compassionate care. She is truly a model for nursing and Baylor All Saints Medical Center."

The DAISY Award is a nation-wide program that rewards excellence in nursing. The award was created by the Foundation for the Elimination of Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem and recognizes the clinical skills, extraordinary compassion and care exhibited by nurses every day. It is given monthly to an outstanding nurse in more than 100 hospitals across the United States. Patients, visitors, employees or physicians may nominate a deserving nurse.
The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 by the Barnes family in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. Having been touched by the remarkable care, clinical skills and compassion demonstrated by nurses during Patrick's illness, the Barnes family made it their mission to recognize exceptional nurses around the country.
The DAISY Award is funded by the Faxel Endowment for Nurses. Ralph and Dee Faxel established the Faxel Endowment for Nurses through the All Saints Health Foundation. This fund provides scholarships, continuing education and certification assistance specifically for nursing.
