Anis Ansari, MD, Named Physician Of The Year

Internist on the Baylor Carrollton medical staff earns top honor from D/FW Hospital Council

So who is the best physician in the Metroplex? While there’s probably no definitive answer to that question, Anis Ansari, MD, an internal medicine physician on the Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton medical staff, can stake his claim. He has recently been named 2012 “Physician of the Year” by the Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council.

Dr. Ansari joined the Baylor Carrollton (then called Trinity Medical Center) medical staff nine years ago. Since then, he has gained a reputation for outstanding service and deep compassion for his patients (he’s earned some of the highest inpatient satisfaction scores at Baylor Carrollton). And despite his booming practice, he also is heavily involved in hospital operations, developing policies to improve care and serving as a member of the hospital board of managers.

“I enjoy what I do,” says Dr. Ansari. “I live to make any small difference I can in anyone’s life, whether it’s my patients, my friends, my colleagues or the community.”

Dr. Ansari has been at the forefront as the hospital expands its services to provide better care.

“Dr. Ansari was indispensable in the development of our palliative care program,” says Michael Sanborn, MS, FACHE, president of Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton. “When we needed a physician to help get the program off the ground, he happily volunteered and was even willing to leave his daughters to go out of town to attend training on best practices in palliative care.”

Upon his return, he spent hours training colleagues in palliative medicine, which is the field of medicine assisting patients with serious–often terminal–illnesses, focusing on relieving suffering and improving quality of life for both patients and families. Two years ago, Dr. Ansari was similarly involved in the development of the Baylor Carrollton Comprehensive Wound Center.

Besides the impact he has every day on the patients he treats, Dr. Ansari is also involved in the community. He regularly speaks to the medical careers class at his daughter’s school, and, after the events of 9/11, he was inspired to make a quilt that symbolized the unity of our nation. The quilt has a square for each state signed by each state’s governor, as well as a square for each branch of the military, signed by their commanding officers, and a square for the president, signed by George W. Bush. The quilt is now used to raise money for the Fallen Heroes Fund.

“It sounds cliché, but going above and beyond is the norm for Dr. Ansari,” says Sanborn. “His commitment to his patients, this hospital, and our community is evident and serves as a model for others to follow.”

The public is invited to view Dr. Ansari’s quilt, which will be on display in the lobby at Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton on June 14 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. A reception in Dr. Ansari’s honor will be held later that evening, to which the public also is invited.
