Nurses at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine Recognized by Nursing Magazine

The progressive care unit (PCU) at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine received regional recognition from Advance for Nurses magazine as a runner-up in the 2008 Top Nursing Teams competition for Texas and Louisiana. The entire team was featured in the article, "Owners, Not Renters," April 28 issue of Advance.

When Baylor Grapevine established a cardiovascular surgery program in 2003, the PCU, often called a critical care step-down unit, was developed. This is where patients are cared for after they leave the intensive care unit. This new responsibility brought new challenge – the nurses raised the level of patient care, learning the needs of this new patient population.

PCU clinical supervisors, Roseanne Corgill, R.N., B.S.N., and Sarah Van Trump, R.N., B.S.N., submitted the team's nomination to Advance for Nursing magazine. "This group of motivated nurses...dedicated their unit to achieving the best patient outcomes. They dedicated many hours of education to learning the expectations required in the realm of critical care," wrote Corgill and Trump in their nomination to the magazine. Described in the article were the unit's team efforts in to enact positive changes as they assumed new responsibilities for cardiovascular patients.

"We take great pride in the quality of nurses in our hospital," says Doug Lawson, president, Baylor Grapevine. “The collaborative effort exhibited by this team is a great example of the Baylor team at work.”
