INTERNAL MEDICINE PHYSICIAN DAVID WINTER SAYS THESE NEWLYAPPROVED DRUGS ARE GOOD NEWS FOR THE SIX AND A HALF MILLION AMERICANS LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE. HE SAYS THEY ARE SIMILAR TREATMENTS … AND BOTH ARE EXPECTED TO BE AVAILABLE BY THE END OF THE YEAR.

Both these are fairly similar drugs; they can slow the progression of Alzheimer's. They don’t reverse it; they don’t make you better but keep you from getting worse.
A couple things about these – first, they’re given by IV. So, they put a needle in your arm and drip it in for an hour or so. You have to meet certain criteria to qualify for this, and they’re very expensive.

MEDICARE IS EXPECTED TO PAY FOR THE TREATMENT … BUT DOCTOR WINTERS SAYS SO FAR, IT SEEMS PATIENTS WILL NEED TO CONTRIBUTE AS WELL.
