Summary - The DIPRA study is the first randomized controlled study comparing conventional proximal radial artery access to distal radial artery access in the anatomical snuffbox of the hand, by evaluating its safety through hand function assessment at 30 days and one year. This study reassures operators that the distal radial artery access is safe as hand function change was not significantly different as compared to the proximal radial artery group. With less radial artery occlusions with distal radial access, it has the advantage of preserving the radial artery for future cardiac catheterization, or to be used for conduit for CABG or dialysis access. The results of the 30 days data were presented as a late breaking trial at the SCAI 2022 late breaking session.
