The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) 2023 Scientific Sessions, held on May 18-20 in Phoenix, Arizona, provides an opportunity for interventional cardiologists from around the world to share the latest clinical data, guidance for procedures and expertise from leaders in the field. SCAI works to advance the profession through education, advocacy, research and quality patient care.
Baylor Scott & White Health researchers and scientists will participate in more than 30 presentations, scheduled talks, education sessions and discussions. Research will be presented from Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital at Dallas, Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital – Plano, Texas, and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple, Texas.
A snapshot of talks and presentations with Baylor Scott & White involvement can be found below. Additional details about the annual meeting are on the event website.

ORAL ABSTRACT – Radial and ulnar artery access for peripheral vascular intervention: a single center experience
-
Presenter: Mohammed Salih, MD
-
Time: 3:53 – 4:01 p.m. MST
Abstract/Study Purpose: Radial artery access has been increasingly utilized for coronary procedures due to lower rates of access complications, improved patient satisfaction, and shorter length of hospital stay. However, limited data are available for peripheral vascular intervention (PVI), with a reported percentage of 2% as per most reports.

ORAL ABSTRACT – Oh...... did that just rupture?!
-
Presenter: Karim Al-Azizi, MD
-
Time: 3:53 – 4:01 p.m. MST
-
Abstract/Study Purpose: Transcatheter valve implantation (TAVI) with the balloon-expandable prosthesis is widely used. With challenging anatomies, balloons may interact with calcified aortic root complex, and may interfere with the balloon, or cause its rupture. Device retrieval post-balloon rupture may be difficult and cause vascular complications. We report two cases of a novel technique of retrieving the device without vascular injury with good outcomes.
