Local high school baseball teams will swing baseball season into action with the 2012 First Pitch Classic on February 23-25. The popular tournament showcases the talent and hard work of some of the best athletes in the region and state. It also honors the memory of Grapevine baseball player Chris Gavora who sustained fatal injuries on opening day five years ago.
Baylor Grapevine will provide trainer and medical coverage for players at all games sites as well as trophies and tournament t-shirts. This is the sixteenth consecutive year the hospital has served as the title sponsor.
“We are excited to kick off the 2012 First Pitch Classic with the continued support of Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine,” said Tim McCune, head baseball coach at Grapevine High School. “This tournament annually features some of the top baseball programs in the state of Texas and we look forward to another outstanding tournament this year.”
Participating high school teams include: Burleson Centennial, Colleyville Heritage, Fort Worth Western Hills, Mansfield, Mesquite Poteet, Grapevine, Irving Nimitz, Mansfield Legacy, Birdville, Amarillo Tascosa, Fossil Ridge, Saginaw, Coppell, Richland, Keller, Boswell, Waxahachie and El Paso Franklin. Tournament games will take place at Colleyville Heritage High School, Grapevine High School, Fossil Ridge High School and Keller High School.
