Baylor Scott & White Health Opening Austin-Area Primary Care Clinics, Offering App-Based Care Delivery Downtown

Downtown Clinic to Serve as Hub for Innovation to Improve Patient Experience

Baylor Scott & White Health today announces a new clinic in downtown Austin and the addition of an app-based health care service through a collaboration with New York City-based Pager. Another primary care clinic, Baylor Scott & White Clinic – Austin North Burnet, will open later this month.

The announcement comes on the heels of the opening of Baylor Scott & White Clinic – Austin Circle C, a family medicine clinic, in November 2016, which serves Southwest Austin residents.

With Austin's continued growth, the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas seeks to fill the need for innovative and convenient health care services in the market.

"We're excited to be able to offer Austin residents the trusted Baylor Scott & White name for their health care needs," said Colleen Sundquist, Vice President, Clinic Operations, Baylor Scott & White – Austin / Round Rock Region. "Austin is start-up and tech influenced in nature, making downtown Austin serve as the perfect location for a Baylor Scott & White clinic where we'll pilot innovative ways to improve the experience for our patients. What we test here has the potential to change the way we deliver care throughout our health care system, focusing on true health care, instead of sick care, for Texans."

Both the downtown and North Burnet Road locations will offer primary care services, including family medicine, orthopedics, some additional specialty services, and integrative medicine which includes acupuncture and massage.

In addition, Baylor Scott & White Clinic – Austin Downtown will introduce a series of tech-driven initiatives never before offered at Baylor Scott & White. Enhancements include an innovative patient check-in via tablet, interactive room displays to track health progress, Bluetooth wireless technology to transfer vitals as they are taken, text appointment reminders, and more. Remote services include allowing patients the ability to begin the check-in process prior to arrival, to consult remotely with nurse staff, and utilizing Pager – an interactive, on-demand health care app for use on Apple or Android phones and tablets.

"Each patient has the power to control their own health path – we're simply a guide along the way," said Nick Reddy, Chief Digital Officer, Baylor Scott & White. "Typically in a doctor visit, you don't have direct visibility to your health records at your appointment. Now, with the exam room display we are piloting at the downtown clinic, patients will be able to see trends and track progress over time. At this clinic, patients will have a unique opportunity to see first-hand what we might eventually roll out to more clinics across the state. It will serve as our testing ground for new, tech-driven processes that will aim to improve both the patient and caregiver experience."

Baylor Scott & White already has a long-standing history of providing quality medical care to residents and families of Northern Travis and Williamson Counties. The new clinics will allow Baylor Scott & White to increase access for Austin residents.

Baylor Scott & White Clinic – Austin North Burnet, located at 2608 Brockton Dr., Suite 150, Austin, TX 78758, will open Monday, Jan. 23. Baylor Scott & White Clinic – Austin Downtown, located at 200 E. Cesar Chavez Street, Suite G-140, Austin, 78701, will open Monday, Jan. 30. Austin North Burnet will be open seven days a week, while Downtown will be open Monday through Friday. Both clinics will serve patients 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Pager is now available to downtown-area residents and can be downloaded in the Apple or Android app store.
