Baylor Plano Receives Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Award

Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano has won a Silver Award from the Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Awards committee.

The award illustrates Baylor Plano's commitment to delivering quality care to every patient every time. The Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Awards recognize hospitals that have demonstrated excellence in health care quality through improved performance on national quality measures.

Out of 214 Texas hospitals, only 118 hospitals earned a Silver Award. The award acknowledges the hospital for improving care related to acute myocardial infarction or AMI, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. These are national health care priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and The Joint Commission. The award also recognizes that the hospital has undertaken quality initiatives to improve outcomes in patient care and has improved its performance on specific national quality measures. Hospitals qualify for an award based on a composite scoring system, called the Appropriate Care Measure.

“Recognition by TMF Quality Institute demonstrates our commitment to quality to our community,” said Jerri Garison, president, Baylor Plano. “We are always working to improve the quality of care our patients receive, and we’re pleased to be recognized for our work in improving quality of care related to hear attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care.”
Hospital size was not a factor in determining who received an award. Hospitals were scored based on data taken from an aggregate rate for four rolling quarters of Appropriate Care Measure numbers. This was based on 12 months of data abstracted from hospital discharge records from October 1, 2010, through September 20, 2011.
