Focuses on health and wellness for cancer patients and survivors

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney is introducing a wellness program for cancer patients and survivors on their journey toward survivorship. This highly individualized program is designed to boost the healing process and enrich lives while the participants are still in treatment.  The 12-week S.H.I.N.E. On! program is free and open to the McKinney community.

Components of the program include:  emotional support, nutritional support, cooking demonstrations, and fitness/exercise programs. The S.H. I. N. E. acronym stands for Strength, Hope, Inspiration, Nutrition, and Exercise.

"The goal for our cancer team was to create a program where the patient is comfortable and surrounded by like individuals," says Erin Blair, director of oncology services, Baylor Scott & White - McKinney.  "S.H.I.N.E. On! allows patients to move through various phases of the program to reach the end goal of hard wiring exercise and wellness into their lives. We are pleased we can offer this program locally close to tour patient's homes."

On Monday, Jan. 9, Baylor Scott & White – McKinney will host an orientation at the hospital in the second-level Darling Classroom. The program officially begins week of January 16 with weekly exercise classes.
